The Department of Civil Engineering promotes and coordinates research activities in the following areas:
- Transportation System Analysis
Development and application of models and methods for the analysis of the transport systems of people and goods.
- Building Technology
Analysis of building structures and their technological, functional, typological and formal aspects. Analysis of the relations between design and construction.
- Architectural Design and History of Architecture
Architectural design, at different scale. History of building and activities related to the transformation of the environment.
- Hydraulic Engineering
Design and construction of infrastructures and facilities of protection against rains, rivers and sea. Use of hydraulic and sea resources.
- Architectural Representation
Representation of architecture and the environment. Laws governing the formal structure of design and visual communication at different scales.
- Appraisals and Evaluation
Estimate of ordinary and extraordinary properties. Damage estimate. Estimate of the construction costs of production. Market and urban land analysis.
- Geology
Study of the " Environmental System". Experimental and theoretical study of the Earth's surface, atmosphere, hydrosphere and cryosphere.
- Geotechnical Engineering
Study of boundary value geotechnical problems involving natural formations. Identification criteria for landslide risk analysis and zoning over large areas.
- Hydraulics
Problems of fluid mechanics in engineering. Fluid flow in natural and artificial systems. Prediction and control of phenomena associated with the motion of fluids.
- Sanitary Environmental Engineering
Protection of ecosystems balance in the prevention of chemical, physical and biological risk of pollution. Studies on biological cycles, ecological changes, environmental impact and risk.
- Structural Engineering
Multi-scale modeling, simulation and testing of materials and structures. Construction materials, composite materials, nano-materials, and biomaterials. Earthquake engineering.
- Roads, Railways and Airports
