PRESENTATION

The Department of Civil Engineering  promotes and coordinates research activities in the following areas:

 

  • Building Technology
    Analysis of building structures and their technological, functional, typological and formal aspects. Analysis of the relations between design and construction.

 

  • Architectural Representation
    Representation of architecture and the environment. Laws governing the formal structure of design and visual communication at different scales.

 

  • Hydraulic Engineering
    Design and construction of infrastructures and facilities of protection against rains, rivers and sea.  Use of hydraulic and sea resources.

 

  • Appraisals and Evaluation
    Estimate of ordinary and extraordinary properties. Damage estimate. Estimate of the construction costs of production. Market and urban land analysis.

 

  • Geology
    Study of  the " Environmental System". Experimental and theoretical study  of the Earth's surface,  atmosphere, hydrosphere and cryosphere.

 

  • Geotechnical Engineering
    Study of boundary value geotechnical problems involving natural formations.  Identification criteria for landslide risk analysis and zoning over large areas.

 

  • Hydraulics
    Problems of fluid mechanics in engineering. Fluid flow in natural and artificial systems. Prediction and control of phenomena associated with the motion of fluids.

 

  • Sanitary Environmental Engineering
    Water and wastewater treatment; monitoring and protection of surface water; odour characterization, monitoring and control; tratment and management of urban solid waste; soil remediation and risk assessement; environmental impact assessement and strategic environmental assessement.

 

  • Structural Engineering
    Multi-scale modeling, simulation and testing of materials and structures. Construction materials, composite materials, nano-materials, and biomaterials. Earthquake engineering.

 

  • Roads, Railways and Airports
    Road materials. Structural behavior and calculation of superstructures roads, railways and airports. Road safety. Construction of roads and their functionality.

 

  • Urban Planning
    Methods and techniques for urban planning. Energy and environmental sustainability of urban transformation in landscape government.

 

  • Topography
    Geo-referencing, detection and control, processing and restitution of complex metric and/or thematic  data  with reference to space and time.

 

  • Transportation Engineering
    Mobility of people and goods. Performance of transportation components and system. Optimization transport system.
